When I was getting close to graduating I kept hearing so many horror stories about how recent grads could not even get an interview let alone a job. Being an account executive with The Campus Special was the best decision both personally, and career wise I have ever made. In order to complete the internship last summer I postponed graduating, because I knew that this internship was worth it. Before Campus Special everything I had learned in school came from books, and tests inside a classroom. This internship allowed me to go out into the world and think on my feet. I was able to use my own... judgment, personality and communication skills to get the job done. I wasn't learning "which answer is best a, b, or c" I was learning how to manage accounts, complete daily and weekly reports, and most importantly how to believe in myself and therefore become a professional. When I first read the past Account Executive testimonials on the Campus Special internship website, I was a little skeptical. I knew it'd definitely be a great working experience - but would it really be life changing? That's a pretty tall order and I felt I had to see it to believe it. Tried and true, the Campus Special delivered on that promise - and exceeded it tenfold. Before the Campus Special internship, I was letting the fear of striking o...ut keep me from living up to my true potential and game. I was just the "average" college student. After the internship, I have become a young professional. The internship can be very tough, but it was so worth it. The quantitative data I now have to put on my resume is truly priceless. I learned a lot of things in 3 months that most people don't learn for years in their career, like the value of time management, organization, and building rapport with clients. I've learned how to be a self starter and that if I want something done, it is in my hands to get it done. I've discovered when to be a leader and a follower, responsibility, and the art of being pleasantly persistent. These are things that cannot be taught to you in a classroom - you have to experience it head on! This past summer I interned with Campus Special and it was one of the best decisions I could have made during my college career. I graduated in August 2011 and had a job offer not even a month later with one of Campus Special's partner companies. I worked for the Campus Special at the University of Iowa this past summer. I can't begin to list the amazing opportunities this internship has provided for me. First, I gained real life experience that most paper filing, document controlling interns never see. Secondly, I added invaluable skills and discussion topics to my resume.
